Chabot Park Estates was planned in the 1940's on a 700-acre hillside site. Named for Anthony Chabot, an early Oakland resident who brought observatories to the city, Chabot Park is home to the renowned Chabot Space & Science Center. Founded as a public education institution in 1883, the Center continues that mission today by offering public access to state-of-the-art telescopes, the Ask Jeeves Planetarium, hands-on interactive science and technology exhibits, and public science programs. The instruments housed in the Center's signature Dome date back to as early as 1920. Anthony Chabot's name is also attached to the Lake Chabot Municipal Golf Course and the nearby Lake Chabot. Established in 1923, Lake Chabot Municipal Golf Course is a public course located in the beautiful Oakland Hills. This course has a regulation eighteen-hole course as well as a par-three course. Chabot Park Estates has an active homeowner's association. For more information about this community, please see links on this page.

Golfers, horse lovers and lovers of serene beauty will be at home in Chabot Highlands and nearby Durant Park. Located on the edge of the Chabot golf course, and a mere 15-20 drive to downtown Oakland, the area is typified by older ranch styled homes situated on lots ranging from fro ½ to 1 acre or more. The larger properties can accommodate 1 or 2 horses, so it's not unusual to see owners out enjoying a ride. The extensive East Bay Regional Park is close by.
